Risk

23 Jun

Great love and great achievements involve great risk. -Nepalese saying

Risk and fear of failure is something that I personally deal with everyday. But then again everyone deals with it everyday in some way or another. We all get out of bed, we all use cars or some form of transportation that could be dangerous. We all use stairs, what if we slipped and fell? So what…we do these things anyway. Because the risk is nothing compared to the reward. And for most of us the reward is basic life. But then when it comes to things like pursing our dreams, we chicken out! Why is this?

Ask yourself:
Am I playing it safe? What leaps of faith have I taken recently? Is sitting on the couch and flipping the channels doing anything for me? What is one thing I could do today to move an inch closer to my wildest dreams? Am I scared of failure and/or success? Why is that?

I know that for me, I am scared of success and failure. I don’t want to let people down but I also don’t want people to talk about me, I don’t like being the center of attention (good OR bad.) If you’re living life under the radar are you really living? Are you doing anything to really help anyone? You are definitely not helping yourself! Risk is hard, trust me I know. We’ve all been through it. But when it all is said and done and you’re at the end of your life looking back, you’ll find out that not taking risks was actually much more of a risk! If you don’t pursue your dreams think of all the people you could have impacted but didn’t because you were too scared to take that risk! I believe that is riskier than taking a leap of faith.

Don’t let that be you. Live with love, take those leaps of faith! Risk, grow, dream, learn, LOVE! It is worth it! Everything will work out, I pinky promise! 🙂

How to Have a Lovely Day

16 Jun

I found this picture online months ago and it really struck a chord with me! It is truly inspirational and lovely. Help others and you will help yourself in return. Be positive and smile, love life and it will love you back! Don’t let today be “just one of those days” grab it and make it wonderful no matter what! Make up lovely fairy tales in your head if you must. Always picture the true life you want to live, don’t settle for second best, and then that dream and vision will become a reality if you let it.

Have a Lovely day guys!

Follow Your Passions

9 Jun

This is advice that I dole out to anyone and everyone who will listen! I know in our days of getting a good education, getting a good job, being all safe and secure in a 9-5 and then settling down to a big house and 1.8 kids is what we’re told to do growing up. Or at least most of us are “encouraged” to take that route. I know I always have been, my grandfather even told me when I was in Jr High that I should become a plumber or electrician because that’s where the real security and money is. Umm…yeah sorry Gramps but I’m WAY to girly for that stuff! Yes I can build stuff and I am very handy around the house, however I don’t think I’d trust myself in those areas…too clumsy and I know I’d hate it!

There was once a study done by Yale in the 50s. They kept track of 100 people from the graduating class (probably mostly men, but that’s not the point!) Out of these 100 I believe all but a few became millionaires after 25 or so years. But the funny thing was, I think it was around 90 or so of them didn’t take the traditional route after graduation, they all chose to follow their passions, which for most this meant starting their own businesses. So years later, ALL of the people who followed their passions had become millionaires, yet the ones that took the square route were less lucky. Yes some of them may have become giant CEOs with private jets, but I can guess they probably weren’t as happy at the others!

Why am I bringing this up you ask?! Well I love to make things and be very crafty. So yesterday I picked up 2 books at the Library about crafting businesses, because I was also born to be an entrepreneur so these two blend really nicely for me. In these books they profiled people like Grace from Design*Sponge and Holly from Decor8 as well as countless others who had a knack and passion for creating pretty things, and ran with it. Now both of these women have HUGE sites with thousands of readers, they now have ad revenue coming in, they get to work for themselves and set their own hours and income. They can sell their stuff, some are getting book deals (like Holly who is writing her book from EUROPE!) The thing is, when you follow your passion, you don’t have to have a set out plan, at least nothing really strict and rigid. Because one thing often leads to another, something even bigger and better than you can imagine! If you can believe in yourself and have faith in your talents and passions, magical things can happen!

Look at Kandee Johnson for example, in her ‘Go Get Your Dreams and My Story’ video she tells us all of the things she’d been through. Which is a lot and more than I could imagine! She also inspires you to follow your heart and do what sets your heart on fire and makes you feel alive. This is so true! Go do it!

My one advice for people following their passions: Figure out what you love to do, and what you are naturally at least semi-good at, what makes you feel alive, then go for it. But don’t limit yourself to being just a “clothing designer” or just a “horse trainer”. The thing with following your passions is, you usually end up becoming an entrepreneur in the process, and sometimes being an entrepreneur is a huge part of your dream already (like mine.) So the key is to never ever put yourself in a box. As humans we are always growing, and the best business advice I’ve gotten so far was from Ali Brown “Design your business around who you are.” If you are always growing and changing that means your passions and business will be too! Maybe not in huge ways but in small ways its inevitable. So go with it, grow, change and embrace it. Remember you can only fail if you give up!

Please visit these links, watch Kandee’s videos, go read and learn about other people who have followed their dreams and then go out and DO! Take action. Believe in yourself and the dreams God has given you. When he closes one door, he opens another, and it is often way bigger and more beautiful than the one before it! He will never give you more than you can handle, I promise. If you follow your dreams you will never truly regret it I promise!

Choose to be Happy!

4 Jun

I know this is so hard to do some days. I hate those days when you really just have no motivation, or you’re stressed by money or health problems, or family/friend drama. It is tough, but one thing I’ve learned in the last few years is no matter where you are you need to be happy now. Yes right now!

The reason I’m saying this is because I know that life just sucks sometimes. But no matter how stressed I am about money or family or anything else, if I can’t find at least one small thing to be happy and grateful for right now, then years down the road when I have plenty of money, I’m married and living with the love of my life, I get to travel and do the things I love everyday…I know I still won’t be perfectly happy. Why? Because it isn’t in my mind and thoughts to choose happiness! When we encourage ourselves to find the silver lining of every situation we are unstoppable! If you can be somewhat happy now, think of how happy you’ll be when you have achieved your dreams! But on the other hand if you don’t have a spirit of happiness now, years from now even if you “have it all” you’ll still be depressed and negative, you’ll still be wanting more. You’ll catch yourself saying “Oh I can’t wait until my next vacation.” “I can’t wait until my kids are older and can take care of themselves more.” “I can’t wait until I can retire!” Blah Blah Blah…you get the idea!

Do you really want to be one of those people who are never truly happy no matter what they have? We all know people who just can’t be grateful for what they have, and I don’t know about you but I hate to be around them, it’s just depressing!

So today do yourself and the others around you a favor and choose to be happy no matter what!

God Bless!

A Little Motivation and Inspiration from Jillian Michaels

2 Jun

Losing it with Jillian

So this may not be my usual Wednesday post-this should be a long inspiring or advice article. However I just watched this earlier on Hulu and I can’t stop thinking about it. I actually took out my journal while I was watching it and wrote down the quotes that Jillian and others said and tips I saw during the show. This episode made me laugh and cry, it was truly an eye opener for me. I’m a pretty healthy person, granted I don’t train THIS hard but I am a tad on the health freak side. But my family usually isn’t. This show opened my eyes to how I should push them to be better, not just healthier but better in every area of their lives. One thought I had on my mind the whole time was to tell someone everyday (or better yet tell everyone you love EVERYDAY) “I believe in you-you can do anything you want and I will be here to support you.” I wish someone told me that everyday! Also as Jillian says “Why choose failure when success is an option?” Amen! I am not accepting failure as an option anymore. If it doesn’t work out it wasn’t meant to be, failure is when we give up and choose to bow out.

Lets make this a movement! Don’t choose failure, choose success! It IS possible! You can do anything you set your mind to! And tell someone you love today that they deserve better and they can achieve it! Assure them that you will be there for them every step of the way to support them.

How to Get Out of a ‘Funk’ or Just Plain Bad Mood

26 May

Last night it took me hours to fall asleep because I was feeling so blessed about my life that I could not shut my brain down! Yet this morning I woke up at my usual semi-early time and have been in a bad mood since. I had to keep asking myself “Why?” all day. Truly the change in me was huge in just a few hours, but that probably has a lot to do with it; I got very little sleep because I still woke up early. However I decided to turn my ‘funk’ into a game of sorts. I threw out my to do list and kept a running list of all the things that one can do to bring themselves out of a funk and back into the bright and optimistic people we are!

1. Laugh
Seriously! Who doesn’t feel better after a good laugh?! Go to Youtube and watch a few funny videos. Watch your favorite funny movie or show. Call up that friend or family member that never fails to make you bust a gut!

2. Dance! Break out all the cheesy 80’s or 90’s music you can find and dance like no one is watching! Endorphins baby! (Plus it can be a great workout! Kill two birds with one stone.)

3. Nature Studies have shown that getting outside can help us with so many different mental issues. ADD/ADHD patients benefit from spending daily time in nature, so do people with depression. Basically everyone can benefit from spending some time to stop and smell the roses…or grass. Bonus: If it’s sunny out you can get a healthy dose of Vitamin D which we all know can make us a little blue in the winter. Also being outside may mean exercise which equals more endorphins, aka the “feel good” hormones.

4. Workout I’ll admit sometimes the last thing I want to do when I’m in a bad mood is squats and lunges. But after I’m done I always feel at least a little better. Go for a run, do some yoga, or if you happen to be mad at someone or have a little frustration built up-kick boxing is probably the best way to blow off that steam and feel 100 times better quickly!

5. Read There is nothing like escaping into a new world for even just a few minutes.

6. Chocolate Okay so we all want to be healthy and in beach-body shape for summer, however chocolate has been proven to boost moods. Your best bet is to choose a very And take time to savor and ounce of good, quality dark chocolate that is 60% or higher, NOT a candy bar!

7. Meditate Nothing fancy here, seriously you don’t have to be a yogi studying in India to meditate, and it has huge benefits for the body and mind. Two of my favorite resources for meditating are Youtube (search ‘Paul Collier’ for some great relaxation music) or Itunes podcasts (my favorites are ‘My Thought Coach’ or ‘Meditation Station’-these are ready-made soundtracks, all you need is yourself, a quite place to sit and headphones if you feel the need!)

8. Bath or Shower I don’t know about you but I always feel better after a shower, and I usually get my best ideas in the shower so it’s a major Win-Win.

9. Slow down and savor the moment I am all too bad at this but it’s something I am trying to work on much more. 6 Steps to Living in the Moment

10. Music I have some songs that are just automatic pick me ups. Examples: I am so Blessed-Martina McBride, Worlds Greatest-R.Kelly, Unwritten-Natasha Bedingfield, We Live-Superchic[k], Where is the Love?-Black Eyed Peas, You are My Hope-Skillet…and many many more!

If all else fails, take a nap!

If you have any tips on how to get yourself out of a funk or any more songs or anything I may have missed, please leave them in the comments!

How to Turn Admiration or Jealousy into Something Positive

19 May

We all have those people in our lives that we see and wish so hard that we could be, right? I know I do, and with all the media we get everyday we are constantly seeing celebrities and people who we also wish we could be like. Facebook and other social media websites allow us instant access to people we see and want to be everyday. In a way this can be healthy, seeing someone successful, healthy and happy and then taking steps to strive to be like them. But for some people it can go too far in the other direction. Especially if this is someone we are near all the time, for instance someone we go to school with or possibly even a family member.

Sometimes when we see these people who just seem to have it all and are as close to perfect as possible we can get jealous, and jealousy is not an emotion you should be messing with. It is a very cancerous emotion that really does no good for you. So what are you supposed to do when you see that girl in your science class who seems to have it all?

Simple, write down all the things you admire about her (or all the things you admire about Amanda Bynes or someone famous.) Now the key thing here is to now just focus on hair or makeup or anything like that, yes looks may be one of the biggest things you admire about someone. But the key thing we’re trying to accomplish here is to realize that you can become your best self by using your admiration for others in a healthy manner. It is also really important to remember that as amazing as these people may look they truly don’t have it all, and they are far from perfect! That pretty girl in class may actually be a wreck inside because things in her life are actually going down hill for her. So we really shouldn’t put people on such a huge pedestal because we’re all human.

Two things to do to help you find your best you:
1. Write down 10 things you are grateful for in your life.

Examples: 1. My parents 2. My sister 3. My car 4. My wavy hair 5. my job 6. Having running water…you get the idea.

2. Now list out all the people you admire in this world, yes it may be a long list but you don’t have to go over every single person, just the one’s you feel really drawn to at the moment. Now list out the qualities you like about them. Are they really successful in their careers? Did they follow their heart and passions without really caring what others thought? Do they really have body peace and a healthy lifestyle? Etc…

Examples: Kandee Johnson– she has overcome so many obstacles in her life and yet still followed her heart and passions; she helps so many people with her advice, wisdom and optimism; she has a great faith in God that I truly admire; she is an entrepreneur despite everything.

Hayley Williams (from Paramore)- she does what she wants without caring about other people who may not agree or like it; she makes and lives by her own rules; she has an amazing voice and talent for music and song writing and isn’t afraid or ashamed of it; she truly follows her heart, gut and passions; she is “one of the boys” with her band mates, etc.

2.2– Now that you get how to write out these out and look at it as positively as possible you want to look back through them (possibly after giving it a while to settle in and think through it.) If you see patterns like “follow your heart” or “not caring what others think” take note of that! That should really tell you something about your life (and yes those are actually 2 examples from my own journal.) Now think about areas of your life you can implement these things.

When we see people doing what we wish we could do we tend to get even more down on ourselves or even jealous. This is definitely NOT the way we should go about it! Even if we read a book or watch a movie and see someone we admire we should ask ourselves “Why?” It can tell you a lot about what you truly want from life because you can’t actually be someone else you have to strive to be the best YOU. If you want to be more daring and try new things like your sister does than GO FOR IT! (Turn these things you notice into goals with small action steps you can take everyday so you really can become the best you possible!)

This is your life and you have to live it to its fullest everyday. Do what you want to do not what other want you to do. And please, please don’t get jealous of others because they are often fighting battles behind the scenes that would make you think twice about trading places. So go out there and love yourself! Be true to yourself and live life with all the love you can muster!

We see things as we are, not as they are.
-Leo Rosten

I love this quote because it truly shows us that we can become all those things we dream about in other people! We can follow our hearts, dreams and passions. We can be healthy and happy and in love just like everyone else on this planet! We can find our own style and look amazing, that’s part of following our hearts! You can truly become the best you possible and looking at others can help if we use them as a spring-board of positive inspiration and then take action towards those very things we admire in them.

God bless!
